Did You Miss Me?

I’m Back!

.

Yes I have returned from my vision quest. I have seen many things, I’ve changed. Oh the things I have seen! The world is a deep, dark and scary place. A much darker Kyle has returned to Sublime. No more smiles and “how’s it goings?”…. No I can’t be that guy anymore. Not after what I have seen. What has changed me you ask? Two words… Turkish Bath. A large, very hairy man gave me a bath! And I’ll forever be a changed man from it.

.

Ahhhhh, no it’s good to be back. It was a great trip, saw plenty of amazing things, met amazing people, partied with my best friends, oh and I locked down the hottest girl on the market… soooo game over fellas. On Tuesday evening, when we landed in Winnipeg around 7pm after 24hrs of travel I looked at Claudia and wondered out loud how I was going to coach at 6am, she just replied telling me I would be fine, and of course she was right. So as I lay wide awake at 4am, I decided I may as well get up, drive in and get a head start on catching up. Thanks to my awesome staff (honestly they’re great) … I didn’t have too much to catch up on.

.

So I started sifting through the attendance to see who’s been slacking off while I was gone… I’m giving you all till next week to get it together. Papa’s home, and he is PISSED!

.

I sat there concerned, questioning if I even remembered how to cue a proper squat anymore. Then some members started trickling in and everything felt like I had never left. You know how unique it is to come back to work and have people genuinely happy to see you? I guess it shouldn’t surprise me after all this time, but it does. And I missed work? How does that happen? I even missed coaching at 6am! I missed Kevin bouncing in the door at 5:40am with waaaaaaaaay to much energy for that time. Or the girls being excessively loud for no apparent reason, Jeff being… Jeff. Then the 7am crew, the much quieter 7am crew. They slide in, some small talk, then right down the business. People just stopped in on their way to work to welcome me home, and offer congratulations. It was not your typical first day back at work. It was fantastic. I was greeted with smiles, a card, and a little something to drink (thanks Kev).

Then I had my afternoon crew, the Power Hour at 4pm. Slick Rick and the Gang. Sir Don Squats A Lot. Just when I was starting to fade, jet lag was getting the best of me, they picked me right back up. I haven’t even coached 1130 or 12 yet, or the evening shift! That’s today, and I’m looking forward to it.

This is going to be another one of those ramblings with no real direction that I do every now and again, it’s like you guys are reading my journal. I DON’T ACTUALY HAVE A JOURNAL! Don’t make fun of me Jeff.

.

I had quite a few moments where I felt so inspired and wanted to get right back to work, largely due to music. When you take that many flights, you dive into a long list of tunes. You guys all know how much I love music, it is something I lean on. John Mayer sings a song called “Walt Graces’ Submarine Test”. It is one of those songs that you can interpret however you want. For me, it tells a story of a man who wasn’t happy where he was. So he did something about it, no one believed it was possible, but he succeeded. ‘When you’re done with this world, you know the next is up to you’. Believe it or not, this was one of the catalysts to starting Sublime, as lame as that may sound.

.

I’m also a fan of hip hop. Specifically 90s – early 2000’s. More specifically, The Clipse and Pusha Ts’ solo work. Mom, don’t look any of those songs up. Not the greatest role model, but someone who made something of himself none the less. He rhymes with such arrogance and confidence, I love it. ‘I’m only in the company of kings, I made a power move and it’s everything it seems’ Dead on. Whenever I hear one of his songs I just want to lift a car.

.

I was sifting through one of those airline magazines during our 19th(?) flight of the trip, when I stumbled across some stupid “How to be a Successful Entrepreneur” article. First off let me say, I hate those articles. Especially those ones that pop up on Facebook, “20 things you MUST do to be a Successful Entrepreneur!” You know what you need to do to be successful? Work hard, and be honest with people. That is it. If you have a few lucky breaks, you’re golden. No secret formula exists.

.

Anyway, sorry about that. The point is. As I was reading it I thought, “I should write a blog post about this and relate it to working out”. And that is when it hit me, I don’t need to. You guys get it. No one is handing out fitness goals, you need to work for it. But you know that! I never have to explain that to anyone. Everyone at Sublime works hard, you are all honest with yourselves. I feel like I had a major point I was trying to get too but now I lost it.

.

Point is, I’m glad to be back. I’m so proud of what Sublime has become. I’m so proud of all our members and what they have achieved. I’m proud of our coaches and how hard they work. There is a ton of love floating around that gym on a daily basis and none of it is fabricated. It is a special place, built on hard work and honesty, from both the staff and the members.

.

It’s good to be home. On Saturday September 13th, Sublime would like to host a BBQ for our members and families. Past or Present members, I want to see everyone. More details to come, but if you could keep the day open and come down even for a short stay it would mean a lot to me.

.

See you around the gym.

.

Kyle.

Solid post Kyle. So good to have you back, and congrats again. John Mayer was banned from ALL of my playlists a long time ago, but maybe I’ll give that song a listen… actually, no I won’t…. I can’t stand that guy…. but, you I like… and I’m authentically suprised I could get along with anyone who likes John Mayer. Welcome back bro!!!
